FUCHSIA is our name for D&C Red 33. It is 91% pure dye. It's batch certified so it's legal for use in appropriate for sale products in the USA & comes with paperwork. Be sure you research the max usage rate and appropriate use of this in your products.
D&C Red 33 is water soluble. pH stablility 4-10x turns orange over pH of 10. Because this dye is extremely concentrated, the dye in the bag will not be the same color dry as it is once it's dissolved in water, so don't be alarmed.
As with any colorant, lighter shades are achieved using less and darker shades achieved using more. This color makes a vibrant fuschia (pink-purple) shade in water. Although the dissolved in a glass pictures look similar to Red 28, this color has a purple hue to it that Red 28 does not. Red 33 is a great mixer with Blue 1 for purple.

Red 33 dissolved in a couple strengths, dissolved red 33 dye dripped on a paper towel, dissolved dye mixed with 125g baking soda. As you can see, red 33 bloomed bicarb doesn't look like it does in water. It shows it's color fully in water.
This will color water more vibrantly than any other colorant, but it's extremely concentrated, so you will use little & you must dissolve it in a diluent containing water before use. The step to dissolve is very easy and instructions are outlined below.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING PURE DYE:
Add a very small amount of water to a condiment cup. Use a tiny spoon (like a 0.15cc mica spoon) to transfer some dye to the condiment cup. Stir until it’s fully dissolved. Your diluent must contain water as these are water soluble. Use the minimum amount needed to dissolve the dye. Run sample tests & keep notes to see how much to use for your recipe or product to get the shade you want. More will give a richer color, less will give a pastel color.
DYE SQUEEZE BOTTLE:
Please research the legality of the use of this color in your product and for where you live. Follow the usage rates and guidelines for each individual color. FD&C dyes have an important learning curve to properly use including pre dissolving, pH morphing, U/V fade and differing usage rates. Please do your research. We can't recommend any particular use or advice because it is different in all countries. No legality for a particular product or place is implied by the sale of this dye.
WHAT IS BATCH CERTIFICATION & WHY IS IT SO COSTLY?
Batch certification is what is required to be able to legally sell cosmetics in the USA using FD&C and D&C colorants. If you are selling cosmetics using colorants without batch certification, you are out of compliance with FDA law.
IS TWO WILD HARES CERTIFIED TO SPLIT DYES?
No. Our dyes are split professionally by the manufacturer in approved clean rooms, not in our place of business. Paying for the professional splitting of these dyes into small lots is very costly, but but we feel it is the best way to ensure that no cross contamination between colors has occurred. The specialized rooms these dyes are split in are designed & ventilated for this purpose. It takes several hours to clean a room between colors because the colorant powders are extremely airborne. We send you the split, certified dyes in the sealed bags in which they came to us from the manufacturer. We slip that bag in a second bag with your important paperwork which you must keep: A Batch Certificate of Compliance and a full SDS for the dye you purchased.
PURE DYES vs LAKE DYES:
WHY ARE BATCH CERT LAKE DYES SO MUCH CHEAPER THAN PURE DYES & WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?
Lake dyes can contain as little as 10% dye load. They highest dye load possible in lakes is somewhere near 40%. High dye load lakes are very hard to find. Sellers don't advertise their dye strength and opt to sell the lower dye load option because they can offer them at a cheap price and the customers don't know to compare dye strengths to know if they got a good price.
EXAMPLE: $8 for 1 oz of a 10% dye load lake it's equal to paying $72 for 1 oz of a 90% strength pure dye. Basically, 1 oz of a 90% pure dye is equal to purchasing 9 oz's of lake at 10% dye load. (Do the math & compare apples to apples!)
You will need to use a lot of a low dye load product to achieve vibrant color. Sometimes so much powder has to be used with low dye load lake dyes that they aren't suitable for color embeds or certain applications where vibrant color is needed with a very small measure of powder.
All of our colorants have the dye load listed for easy reference. Our pure dyes range from 86-98% pure dye load. Pure dyes are so much more expensive than lake dyes simply because you are getting more of the expensive active ingredient.
Etsy handles the payments. While it is usually done very quickly, any delays or problems with payment will have to be handled with Etsy. We don't have access to your payment accounts through your order except to cancel or refund an already processed order. Digital downloads and some items like colorants and custom orders are non-refundable. Please ask if you have questions.
IS FREE SHIPPING AVAILABLE?
We offer some free shipping listings and the same items are usually available without it as well. For a single item order, use the free shipping listing. For multiple items, use the non free shipping listings for a combined shipping rate that will be lower overall and save you money.
WHO DO YOU SHIP WITH?
We primarily use USPS and sometimes UPS. We use ship First Class, Priority regional rate and flat rate to keep shipping charges as low as possible. Our shipping charges combine automatically, so the second item is a minimal additional charge.
Express 1-2 day shipping is available on many listings, or you can always ask for this additional service if you are in a hurry.
We do use UPS for some bulk orders. Tracking for either shipping service will be added to your shipment when it's shipped.
Our normal handling timeframe is 1-3 business days. We try to clear our dashboard out daily, but during busy times (Mondays & after USPS holidays) we may need the whole 3 business days to send your order. If you'd like to guarantee your order ships within 24 business hours (Mon- Fri), you can choose the Expedited Handling Shipping Upgrade at check out for $5 for 1 item and $1 for each additional item. We also have a First Class to Priority Mail Upgrade & an Express 1-2 shipping upgrade available on some items. Check the shipping options for those.
Please order your supplies in plenty of time to allow for occasional human error. We can't be responsible for inconvenience as a result of the delay of the delivery of your package because of damage, order errors or USPS shipping delays. We do our best to get you a professionally packed order sent out quickly and we care about you returning to our shop, but sometimes mistakes happen.
All customs, duty & VAT fees that may incur upon shipping are the buyer's responsibility. We don't have control over these fees nor are we able to estimate what they will be. Check your local laws regarding these before you ship. Please add your phone number to your international shipments. A phone number is often needed by customs and delivery agents for delivery. If a package is returned to us for non payment of customs or because they were unable to reach you, the shipping is non refundable. We can't refund items for non payment of customs until they arrive back here, which can take months. Confiscated items are non refundable.
**PLEASE track your international packages and use a phone number** on your label and retrieve your packages promptly so they don't get returned. This avoids a lot of problems with customs and order loss.
International shipments are usually completed in 7-14 business days, but sometimes customs holds an item delaying the delivery and in those cases they can take weeks. Please be advised the delivery time frame is out of our control. We can file lost mail claims after 21 days if your package does not arrive. We can file an insurance claim after 30 or 40 days (depending on the insurance carrier) on international orders.
SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION PACKAGES:
We occasionally send more valuable packages with signature confirmation so USPS cannot drop a valuable package on a porch and walk away leaving it open to theft or loss. We utilize this service at our discretion. No loss claims can be filed on a package that is signed for or when signature confirmation is waived by the customer. Damage claims can be filed as stated in our policies above. Shipping charges cannot be refunded on orders returned to us because they are not signed for.
$5 EXPEDITED HANDLING FEE:
This means your order is guaranteed to leave Two Wild Hares within 24 business hours (Mon-Fri). No other delivery speed guarantee is implied by this fee. Our expedited fee is $5 for a single item and $1 for every additional item in the order. If the default shipping on your item is First Class, it is sent as First Class unless you pay the priority mail upgrade in addition.
ADDRESS CHANGES and ERRORS:
Please make your order with the correct address entered in your order detail. We will try to accommodate changes when asked, but if an order is sent to the address on your account in Etsy or Paypal (if you paid with Paypal), not the one you asked to change to in Etsy messages, we cannot resend it at our expense. Our orders are sometimes packed too quickly for a change to be made through Etsy messaging.
Etsy pulls shipping addresses from your Paypal account when paying with Paypal, so be careful not to click through check out without reading where your package is going.
If you make an order with an incorrect address, please cancel your order and place a new order with the correct address so there are no problems with receiving your order. As long as the order hasn't already shipped, we will refund and cancel on your request so the address change can be made.

Accurate, fast deliveries are important to us & we have worked hard for our reputation of providing fast shipping & great customer service. However, each box is carefully packed by a person & people sometimes make mistakes. Shipping errors within USPS are completely out of our control. If there is a problem, please message us and we will do what we can to make it right. We reserve the right to choose either refund or item replacement depending on what makes the most sense in each circumstance.
Orders cannot be cancelled once they are shipped. Returns are accepted on a case by case basis. To return an item, contact us within 7 days of delivery and if a return is approved, customer must ship it back within 14 days. Return shipping is the buyer's responsibility on returns and exchanges. We will refund your item, less the shipping, when it arrives back at Two Wild Hares. Batch certified colorants are non refundable or exchangeable because the certification cannot be transferred. Digital downloads are non-refundable. Custom products are non refundable.
DAMAGED PACKAGE CLAIMS:
To file a claim, within 7 days of receipt, submit a photograph of the package damage and the damaged item with an explanation of what was lost or broken.
These damages are not covered:
1. Dog or another animal chewing up package.
2. Items inside cut by careless package opening.
3. Neglecting to pick up package from mail box or delivery location promptly resulting in heat, rain or other damage as a result.
4. Not providing a safe place for delivery. Packages left outside apartment doors are not safe.
5. Customer supplied incorrect address or address was not entered in the USPS standardized format.
Make sure your local PO and UPS knows where to safely leave your packages and pick them up promptly. We pack boxes full and tight, so don't use a box cutter to open.
We are happy to enter the claim for you on USPS should one be needed and accommodate a reshipment of your package if a claim is paid. If you enter the claim online yourself, we are unable to do anything further for you regarding your damaged package. To file a claim, you must notify Two Wild Hares no more than 7 days after the delivery of your package with pictures. In some cases, we will have to wait on USPS approval to proceed with your replacement package. Don’t throw away the packaging until your claim is completed.
LOST or UNDELIVERED PACKAGES:
If your package is missing in action, we unfortunately have to wait 15 days to file a claim through USPS for domestic packages and 21 days for international packages. We aim for quick and accurate deliveries, but lost packages sometimes happen and are out of our control.
We are happy to enter a loss claim for you on USPS should one be needed and accommodate a reshipment of your package when a claim is paid. To file a loss claim, you must notify us within 21 days of the shipment date for a MIA/lost/undelivered package and within 7 days of delivery if the package tracks delivered but doesn't show up at your house.
If a package is returned to us because of insufficient address, unpaid customs fees or a because a customer didn't retrieve their package and the post office returned it, the shipping fee will have to be repaid to resend it. This includes "free shipping" listings. Free shipping applies to the first shipment only.
INTERNATIONAL ORDERS: Please include an accurate phone number on your order.
Customs/VAT fees will have to be paid in many countries before they will deliver. After so many days, USPS will return your package to us for non payment of customs fees and shipping cost is forfeited. Unclaimed/non payment of customs fees on international packages are sometimes never returned and when they are returned to us, it takes months. We cannot refund items until they arrive back. To avoid the loss of your order entirely, please be aware of and take care of your customs and VAT fees.
Please be sure USPS delivers to your address given. In some countries, USPS only delivers to PO boxes, not physical addresses. It's your responsibility to make sure you can receive packages by USPS with the address entered.
Please be aware of your customs and duties regulations and do not order items that would be confiscated by your country's customs department. Confiscated items are non-refundable.
